Veterinary Science is a branch of medicine that deals with the health and wellbeing of animals. This branch of science covers the prevention, control, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries in animals. It is responsible not only for the health and well-being of domesticated animals like cats and dogs but also for the health and well-being of all animal species, from wild animals to mammals.

Programs in Veterinary Science study provide detailed knowledge about the structure and function, welfare and husbandry and the treatment of diseases in animals. The course modules include topics like anatomy, animal behaviour, nutrition, physiology, genetics, infectious diseases and pathology. Besides theoretical knowledge students of veterinary science learn practical veterinary skills such as bandaging, injection techniques, and laboratory analysis and knot techniques. Monitoring and taking care of the health of animals also help maintain public health as these results in zoonotic diseases being controlled and food supply being maintained.

Students pursuing a degree in Veterinary Science must possess a spirit of compassion when working with animals and their owners, and must treat animals with kindness and respect. The course will assist students in developing important decision-making, interpersonal, management and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to apply the knowledge and skills to real-world situations concerning animal care.
