Public Policy refers to the action taken or enacted by the government to deal with public and real-world problems. It was established as a sub-discipline of Social Sciences because of the increasing need to improve policymaking and public policies. Public Policy as a subject is designed to provide the tools and knowledge that students need to understand the role that public policy plays in society, how they are developed and implemented and how to evaluate policy options. It is an interdisciplinary approach that draws from other disciplines like economics, political science, sociology, and others. It provides an in-depth understanding of numerous global and national issues that influence the problems and outcomes of a policy.

The study curriculum covers topics like the politics of public policy, economics, the social context of public policy, and the history and ethics of public policy. Students of Public Policy gain knowledge on how government bodies make policies for the general interest of the public and to understand what factors affect these decisions. A Public Policy degree provides students with the skills to analyze community problems and influence law-making and other transferable skills like data analysis, critical thinking, and decision-making. The skills learned are relevant and applicable in a number of sectors at different levels- local, regional and international.
